I made my own funfetti birthday cake. Complete with owls and rainbows. This one's a barn owl.

I Baked a Threadcake.

Every year, Chris Cardinal & the t-shirt site Threadless.com run a cake-decorating contest, where entrants bake cakes that look like the shirts. I enjoy cake decorating, and their shirts, so I decided to make one this year, too. The design my cake is based on is called In A Comic. You can see my full entry on the Threadcakes site here.

In the meantime, I've been drawing an owl everyday for almost three weeks now. This is the day's related owl.

I love working with pattern, and have a fascination with wallpapers, book end papers, and repeating imagery. Lino cutting is a great way to create detailed designs to print over & over. I recently asked my friends for a list of things to draw/carve/stamp/print. Here are all of the prints from the project so far.

Cookies in Everyone's Favorite Shapes

My Mom sent me a New York cookie cutter (via annclark) for my birthday, and Grandma B gave me sprinkles, so I decided to make cookies with Sarah's & my favorite states & animals. I made cookie cutters of Oregon, a koala, and an owl.

And they all turned out deliciously. (With a loose representation of the Finger Lakes.)

Owl Be Back

This weekend I went to the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago, which is a huge festival of artists & vendors selling handmade goods. The whole extravaganza had a fantastic owl theme running. It was a hoot.
